Something a little different today. I don’t often write about current performers, but one who fascinates me is the Oscar-winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow, who — after receiving beauty and acting talent in the genetic lottery — apparently got back in line and picked up a good portion of singing ability too.
I first noticed her pipes a decade ago, when she sang a duet with Huey Lewis in the aptly-named film, Duets. Although that performance got most of the notice at the time, the soundtrack album contains other fascinating tracks, including Gwyneth teaming up with Kenneth ‘Babyface’ Edmonds on the Temptations’ hit, “Just My Imagination.”
In the years since, Gwyneth has welcomed even more music into her life by marrying rock star Chris Martin. The couple now has two children while Gwyneth has become a bigger star than ever, and apparently is open to new challenges — as evidenced by her newest movie, Country Strong, due out later this year. In the film she takes on the part of a country music singer, and I’ll be darned if she doesn’t sound like she was born for the part.
Wow! Great song with Babyface and thanks for the heads up about the movie! Gwyneth Paltrow has always projected a maturity and centeredness beyond her years. (I know real life has been something less, but hey, we’re all young and stupid once…)
This was a treat.
