Jerry Vale Will Be Missed By His Many Fans

It has been reported that singer Jerry Vale died over thejv9 weekend at his home in Palm Desert, California. He was 83 and had been in ill health for some time. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, a son, a daughter and three grandchildren.

This post is kind of short because I wanted to get it published tonight, but there are a number of write-ups with more information available online. For a very good one, I’d refer you to our friend David Lobosco’s blog, A TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE.

  1. I am so sad at the passing of Jerry Vale. I met him several times over a period of 25 years when he would be performing within 120 miles from my home. After each show, I would go back stage and chat with him for a few minutes. It was evident that he was a kind, unassuming, down to earth gentleman, who never let his celebrity go to his head. He was just “one of the guys”…”the boy next door”. In my opinion, he had the most beautiful singing voice of any male singer…ever!!! Not only is he gone, but also gone is an era of beautiful (real) music. I won’t even tell you what I think of what is called “music” today. Jerry was one of a kind…there will never be another like him. So sad. Thank goodness for his recordings.

  5. I have followed Gerry Vales career from England & my big regret is that he was not as well known in Great Britain. A truly lovely man & performer

  7. Undoubtedly he was a great artist. They broke the mold and there will never be another like him. Does anyone know what album “Let It Be Me” (‘Je T’Appartiens’) was on? I just love his interpretation of that song. Thank-you.

    1. Thanks BG for your response but it wasn’t the Beatles song “Let It Be” that I was enquiring about. I actually have the LET IT BE album and my favourite track on it is ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’, but of course I love them all. The song I was enquiring about was “Let It Be Me”, initially a song with French lyrics and titled ‘Je T’Appartiens’. I came across the song recently while watching an online video clip where Jerry’s rendition was used by a pair of competition ballroom dances as their dance music. Surely, they couldn’t’ve chosen a more suitable track for their dance routine as it was gorgeous and just so appropriate. The link to the video is:

  9. I knew that was too easy! 😉
    I believe you but any sources I’ve checked don’t show it with Jerry Vale. Quite a few misc artists, but the main one seems to be a guy named Gilbert Bécaud. You can see it here but I know that’s not what you want. Maybe one of our readers will have an idea.

  10. Okay, Barry, here’s some info: According to DISCOGS the song appeared on several albums, all long off the market. The most easily found is used copies of ‘Jerry Vale ‎– Where’s The Playground Susie?’ in a number of places including Amazon, but only as vinyl LPs. Just one source shows it as a CD and it appears to be a place called My Music Boutique that makes new CDs from old LPs. Have no idea about them or their reliability so proceed at your own risk. :-/
    PS Can’t find MP3 anywhere..

  11. Thanks BG and I am impressed I have to say with your efforts and the end result. I definitely intend to proceed to purchase either the vinyl LP or the CD as soon as I can. Jerry Vale was a consummate artist but I also loved many of his musical arrangements for which he undoubtedly had a lot of input. I have been tempted on a number of occasions to commission midi sequences of some of his songs that I like the most so that I can use them as backing tracks when I’m in the shower. Insofar as there’s virtually little or no karaoke of Jerry Vale songs, midi is the next best option. Regards.
